There is a common encouragement among Christians that goes something along the lines of God won't give you more than you can handle.
The idea comes from 1 Corinthians 10:13, the Bible verse that says: There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.
This week, we learned that even if God doesn't give us more than we can handle, He just may give us more than the medical community can handle.
All of our providers seem to have joined in unison to the tune that we just need to wait out the time until some of the stresses in our life subside. Their treatment methods were meant for 1 or 2 BIG stresses in a person's life, not ALL that is going on in ours.
They suggest that we just hang on as best we can, until some of these stresses find closure. Our family doctor suggested that we will have a new perspective in June.....Jersey #2's heart surgery will be over, and The Referee's job situation is bound to work out by then (or else he can seek a new job after the surgery).
After some of these monstrous issues settle down, then we may be better equipped to deal with personal health issues, medication changes, insomnia, techniques for coping with stress, and marriage strains.
Right now, we have nothing to work with, because we are walking through uncommon territory. Most folks would have sunk by now, engaging in drug and/or alcohol abuse, divorce, or even suicide. How sad.
The death of a child takes its toll.
The loss of a job takes its toll.
Chronic illness takes its toll.
Not to mention, 5 young children, marital strife, job stress, financial mistakes, and relationship strains.
We used to face these stresses one at a time. For the past few years, it appears we face clusters of stresses at the same time. That is an intense way to live.
Too intense for the common therapies.
Thankfully, we do not carry these burdens alone. God may allow difficult trials to come into our lives. But, He promises to carry us through. We will stand through the trial and come out the other side still in God's hands.
