Easter Fun 2010

We have enjoyed a fun week of Easter traditions with the kids. Our extended family and our church family certainly helped spread the cheer as we celebrate this most blessed holiday.

Greeting cards...filled with balloons, stickers, and a dollar....arrived in the mail from Granny & PawPaw. Each card told the child that Granny & Paw Paw loved them. Jersey #4 has asked me to read her card to her over and over again. She says, "Granny & PawPaw wuv me!" And then she giggles.
We attended a Passover Seder at our church on Wednesday evening. It is always fun to gather with our church family for fellowship and a meal. This event specifically teaches about the Exodus from Egypt, and the Passover. Jersey #3 guzzled grape juice with gusto. Jersey #1 and Jersey #2 participated in the readings, asking about the unleavened bread and the bitter herbs.
A box of goodies for the kids arrived from Nana on Thursday. Each child received a gift bag filled with coloring supplies and candy. She even found the cutest Veggie Tales lollipops.
We colored eggs outside today, because the weather was so nice. The mess was so much easier to manage outdoors, so I hope to make that a tradition as well. Jersey #3 colored all of his eggs blue. Jersey #4 was so focused on each egg. The older girls were excited but quick with their coloring this year. They were ready to run off and play after just a few minutes. Jersey #5 tried to eat the eggs, dumped the bowls of dye, and then figured out how to crack the eggs and peel them. He took a break to eat a hard boiled egg and then completed his dye-dumping task.

Just before bedtime, we gathered together to make Resurrection cookies. This was the first year we tried this activity. It was a lot of fun. Each step has the children participating in the cookie making. Plus, each step has a corresponding Bible passage to read. Some of the details of the crucifixion of Jesus, and his burial in the tomb are symbolized with the cookie ingredients and preparation. The cookies were placed in the oven for the night. If all goes well, we should find hallow cookies, symbolizing an empty tomb in the morning.

Plus, when the children wake up in the morning, they will find the table filled with more goodies. Granny & PawPaw wrapped gifts for each of the kids to open. The Referee & I fixed up baskets with new socks, a new movie on DVD, and candy.

We will spoil them real good and load them up on sugar, then dress them up fancy and take them to church to worship our Living Savior on Resurrection Sunday! What a glorious celebration!

  1. Very cool. We plan on celebrating Passover in the future. When we were in Colo Spgs. we had a Passover dinner with some cadets and then again in Montana with our small group. I just can't get myself to cook the whole dinner for just the 6 of us. Maybe next year when we make some more friends whom we can invite to join us.

And how did those Resurrection cookies turn out? I meant to do them this year but forgot - only to remember Sunday night. Oh well, maybe next year.
