Happy Easter

I planned to dress the kids up real nice to go to church this beautiful Easter morning.

The end result was not quite what I had in mind. I still lined them up to take their picture, like I try to do each year.

Remember my brilliant sock idea? I purged all the socks in the house and bought the kids socks specific to their likes for their Easter baskets this year. Well, Jersey #2 just LOVED the pair of rainbow socks that were in her basket. She put them on immediately, with her Easter dress, and announced that she was dressed for church.

She also announced that she loved her rainbow socks so much that she thinks she will wear them forever, and never take them off.

Then, the children opened their Easter gifts from Granny & PawPaw and discovered a new pair of tennis shoes for each child. 3 out of 5 of the children put on their new shoes to wear to church. I reminded them that they had nice dress shoes and sandals in their closets. As far as the children were concerned, new was better than dressy.

* Jersey #2 did not wear her new shoes, because she had already dressed herself in her rainbow socks and older tennis shoes (to go with the socks?), and saw no need to change. Jersey #5 was dressed by The Referee, so he wore the shoes found closest to the changing table.

This picture of my 5 children dressed for church in a less-than-perfect way, makes me smile. It shows their individual personalities in their clothing choices. It shows that we are not perfect.

We are imperfect Christians. God loves us anyway.

I let go of the Sunday clothing battles a long time ago. It is not as important to me that my children be dressed perfectly for church, as it is that my children look forward to going to church. I let go of Sunday morning tears over clothing in place of Sunday morning excitement for church.

I want them to focus on God....on His love....on His gift of salvation....on eternity.

I want them to learn and grow in His Word.

I don't want them to get caught up in upholding an image.

Jesus meets us where we are.

Even if we are sitting in the pew in rainbow socks and tennis shoes
