We attempted to close the puppies up in the bathroom when we went to Christmas Eve service last week. We came home to both puppies sleeping on the futon (their favorite napping spot). The pressure-mounted baby gate was no match for their strength.
At first, we were letting the puppies sleep with us, in our beds, or with the kids when they had a slumber party in the living room. As soon as they started getting down off the beds/couch at night, we knew we needed to crate them. They are not yet fully potty trained.
Since we had not yet purchased a kennel crate for them, we thought we could get away with the baby gate method in the bathroom, for at least 1 night. I set up the bathroom with a big blanket for them to sleep, along with their food, water, and toys. We positioned the gate and admired our bathroom transformed into a puppy kennel.
The Referee went to gather the puppies and place them over the gate, into the bathroom. He attempted to place Tesla first. He set her over the gate, onto the floor. Then, he turned to get Kate. In a split second, he saw Tesla fly through the air, leaping over the baby gate in a single bound. Her paws did not even touch it. She can already jump that high!
Yes, my concern is growing. Are these guys super hero puppies or something?
Clearly, the baby gate is no match for them. We had to get a real dog crate instead.
The children think the "puppy house" is a lot of fun to play in too. They can't wait for me to let the puppies out in the morning, so they can go play in their house instead.
The puppies still prefer the futon.
I think we may have our species sleeping spots mixed up around here.
