Don't forget the outfit

It is all about the outfit. I should have known. Jersey #1 likes to "dress the part" of every activity. We know this about her.

The night before our trip to Day Out With Thomas, I was packing clothes for the kids to wear. I made a point to pick outfits for the boys that had Thomas the Train on them (we've got quite a few at our house). Then, I remembered that we might have a Thomas T-shirt stored in the boys bin, that could possibly fit Jersey #4 also. She would like that. The T-shirt was a red one that Jersey #2 wore the year we went to the event in Williams, Arizona. That year, I found Thomas T-shirts on sale at JC Penny, right before our trip, so I dressed the kids up in Thomas apparel for our Day Out With Thomas. (And I wonder where Jersey #1 gets it???) They sure looked cute. Here is a picture....

Yes, that is a Princess crown on Jersey #1's head. She was quite the Princess at that age. We could take the Princess to a Thomas Train event, but we could not take the Princess out of Jersey #1.

So, as I was packing up clothes, I was telling my husband how the younger 3 kids will be dressed in Thomas apparel, but that I was certain the older 2 girls would not permit such silliness. They like to pick out their own clothes. My husband responded, "Oh, I don't know, Jersey #1 would probably be willing to wear a Thomas shirt, since it is a Thomas event. You know how she likes to dress the part. It is all about the outfit with her." I laughed at that truth, and said I still doubted she would go for something so young. We joked that she might wear such a shirt, if it was Thomas carrying Hannah Montana, or something with an older child theme! Her interests have changed through the years.

Well, sure enough, as we were getting dressed for the trip, Jersey #1 commented that she wished I had a Thomas shirt that would fit her. I almost fainted! Then, I laughed. She was serious. She would have happily dressed in a Thomas the Tank Train Engine T-shirt for the Day Out With Thomas event. She is truly committed to "dressing the part." This passion ran so deep in her, that she actually selected a Thomas T-shirt in her size as her souvenir from the event. The moment it was paid for, she immediately asked if she could change her shirt....she had chosen a color that would go just fine with her shorts and headband. She wore her Thomas shirt for the rest of the event....

My husband teased that we needed picture proof of our Jersey #1 wearing her Thomas T-shirt and Hannah Montana tennis shoes!
